2018 American Circus Educators Conference

This workshop introduces contact juggling as a fun, rewarding, and beneficial circus art. I have found that it is an apparatus which increases general body awareness, fine motor control, and balance. We will be learning the basics of contact juggling as well as some tips and techniques I have found useful in teaching. Skills will include dexterity warm-ups, finger games, balance stalls, isolations and some bodyrolling. No experience is required, all skill levels welcome!

This workshop will cover best practices for teaching beginning unicycle, as well as training methods and tips for teaching more experienced riders. We will cover unicycle sizing and maintenance, first steps (or pedals), spotting techniques, and how to teach key skills such as freemounting, idling, backwards, and more. We will also cover skill progressions for a few more advanced skills, and training methods to improve skill regardless of skill level. There will be time at the end to answer questions on any specific skills or topics that attendees may have. This will be a demonstration workshop, not an experiential one, so no unicycle or unicycle abilities required! I will spend most of the time talking, and using either a single student as an example, or demonstrating myself. This will allow us to cover more material in the short amount of time.
